History

Fitzgerald’s Farmhouse, is run by Tim and Kathleen Fitzgerald.  The house was built over 100 years ago by Tom Fitzgerald who would have been Tim’s grandfather.  The stone for the house would have been originally sourced from the land.  Before this house was built, the Fitzgerald Family lived in a smaller house across the road which is still standing but is now used to stable ponies.  So the Fitzgerald Family has spent many generations on this site.

There are still many of the original features on view.  The Dining Room where you have your breakfast is part of the original house it was once known as the “Parlour”, which in times gone by would only have ever been used perhaps once or twice a year, when the “important visitors” such as the priest or people home from America visited.

The fireplace in our own living quarters is also an original feature, for many years we did not realize that this beautiful fireplace existed as it had been covered in with cupboards and a range, when we were renovating in the early 1990’s Tim remembered that there was once an open fire there so they decided to pull out the cupboards and the original fire place was completely intact.  This is a fine example of how typical Irish Families lived around the fire.
